The advocacy community has been a driving force in spreading awareness, mobilizing people and resources, and working for changes in the management of anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction. However, with up to 43 million people at risk there is still more that needs to be done. Leading advocacy organizations and Mylan have come together to support the Anaphylaxis: For Reel™ campaign to drive national conversation about how to improve community and patient understanding about anaphylaxis.
The advocacy experts in this community all agree that the time is now for everyone to understand that severe allergies are a serious, potentially life-threatening, medical condition, which puts an individual at risk for anaphylaxis. Every six minutes, life-threatening food allergies send someone to the hospital. Some people with severe allergies don’t realize their next reaction could be life-threatening and that a mild past reaction does not mean that the next reaction will not be life-threatening.
The advocacy organizations involved with the initiative include Allergy & Asthma Network (AAN), American Latex Allergy Association (ALAA), Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Connection Team (FAACT), Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) and Kids With Food Allergies (KFA).
